Creation Care Mission Statement
Address environmental issues within parish facilities, assist with sustainable programs at the school and educate and inform parishioners on sustainable practices. ![]() Styrofoam recycling at Mater Christi on June 28th.
On Saturday June 28th from 11am to 1pm the Creation Care Group will be accepting styrofoam for recycling along the parking area on 10th Avenue at Mater Christi. Styrofoam is considered a "forever plastic" because it does not biodegrade naturally. Instead, it breaks down into smaller pieces (microplastics) over hundreds of years. Acceptable materials include packaging foam, clean and rinsed food service containers, coolers, cups, foam packing blocks, egg cartons, and clean plates and to-go containers are welcome. No packaging peanuts, foam insulation or other plastics will be accepted. Creation Care Commission Survey |
CREATION CARE MINISTRY
Be the change in the world! What changes will you make as an individual to contribute to a more just and sustainable future? Have you considered joining your parish Creation Care Team, or starting one? The Catholic Climate Covenant has great resources to get one started. Consider reading the encyclical Laudato Si’, a great source of inspiration and motivation. Click here to see the Laudato Si' discussion guide from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Take some time to explore Laudato Deum, a letter from Pope Francis, published in 2023, which serves as a follow-up to his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si’. It reminds people how serious climate change is and urges everyone—especially world leaders—to take action quickly. https://www.ccbq.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/10.04.23_Laudate-Deum.pdf Archdiocese of Chicago Laudato Si' Action Platform (LSAP) To join or questions about Creation Care?
