SPRED (SPecial REligious Development) prepares those with special needs for Liturgical life.
SPRED is an agency of the Archdiocese and is a unique program designed for persons with physical and developmental disabilities. The program helps individuals with special needs to know God, grow in faith, and prepare for full participation in the sacramental life of the parish. St. Paul VI is celebrating a special Mass for our SPRED friends & families, and those in our community who support us or want to know more about SPRED on Sunday, June 2 at 5pm at Mater Christi Church. Please save the date, more information to come. Through collaboration with Blessed Migues Pro: St Pius X Church, individuals can attend SPRED from six years old through adulthood. Blessed Miguel Pro: St Pius X (Stickney) hosts the 6-10 year old group while the remaining age groups are facilitated at the St. Hugh Faith Formation Center on the Mater Christi campus of St. Paul VI. The age breakdowns are:
If you know of an individual in St. Paul VI Parish that would benefit from this program, please contact the Faith Formation Office of St. Paul VI at 708-447-1020. Volunteers Needed! Since SPRED is not a classroom model of religious education, we need adult volunteers who will be trained to form a small community of faith and grow in their own faith as they welcome people of a particular age group. You do not need experience or to have a degree in special education to volunteer with this program. Extensive training is provided, so you just need a willingness to grow in your faith and to welcome our friends! If you are called to service in this ministry, please contact us at 708-447-1020. We need to reschedule Sisters, Soda, and Scripture to May 25, we hope you are able to join us.
