The title of the lecture matches its historical gravity as immigration, so fundamental to any understanding of American identity, has emerged as the central issue at the present moment in the United States. In the midst of the contentious public dialog, Catholics find themselves at an important theological and moral crossroads. This is especially true in light of Pope Francis’ recent letter to the United States calling for all bishops to work closely with migrants and refugees, and for all Catholics to reject narratives that discriminate and dehumanize. Bishop Seitz is at the forefront of these conversations and the action they require. He has served migrant families and refugees from violence face-to-face with compassion, solidarity, and love—and his lecture is one you will not want to miss.
The Bernardin Lecture will take place on 4/22 in McCormick Lounge, Coffey Hall on Loyola's Lakeshore Campus from 7-8:30 PM. This event is free, and all are welcome to join us for this needed conversation. Please forward this information along to your networks as we want to get the word out about this important event.
