Alpha started in 1977 in England. People no longer assumed that God was true or the Bible was trustworthy. People were asking what was real. The founding pastor, Nicky Gumbel, designed Alpha as a “place” of hospitality, and a safe environment for people to voice their questions and express their points of view whatever those might be.
Alpha has spread across the globe and over 30 million people have done Alpha. A few years ago, the Archdiocese of Chicago recommended Alpha to reenergize parishes and to exercise our mission to share the Good News of Jesus. The Alpha experience is simple: a small group of 8-10 people gather with a host and a helper, both of whom have been trained. Food is shared, followed by a video message. The host then leads the group in discussion. The meeting lasts about two hours. Alpha has changed individuals and parishes across the world! Watch for further details.
