Latino Advisory Council

Comite Pastoral Latino

Latino Advisory Council

The General objective of Hispanic Ministry plan is to live and promote through a joint pastoral a model of Church that is: community, evangelizing and missionary; embodied in the reality of the Hispanic people and open to the diversity of cultures, promoter and example of justice that develops leadership through comprehensive education.

Specific Dimensions and Goal

I. Pastoral de Conjunto (communion in mission): Carry out the “Pastoral de Conjunto” throughout the Archdiocese. Through pastoral agents and structures, this style of ministry will manifest communion and collaboration in inculturation, coordination, implementation and communication of the pastoral action of the Church.

II. Liturgy and Prayer Life: Reflect a Church model that is communal,
evangelizing and missionary in liturgical practices and the life of prayer.
In this model, the Church celebrates the religious traditions of Hispanics by encouraging them to express and nurture their faith in their own language and culture, as well as accept the ecclesial vision of the Second Vatican Council.

III. Formation: Provide opportunities for Hispanic Catholics to grow in
criteria and skills to live and promote a model of the Church that is the leaven of the Kingdom of God in society, through training for leadership and catechesis adapted to the Hispanic culture in the United States.

IV. Mission: To ensure that Hispanic Catholics actively share their faith in
Living Christ and, as agents of their own destiny, organize themselves to help their sisters and brothers in their needs and to unite in actions for justice. This will be achieved by promoting both a living and an active faith in Hispanics and an effective participation in the Church and in social structures.

V. Evangelization: Pope John Paul II, emphasizing the urgency for humanity to hear the message of hope of Jesus Christ, has called for "a new evangelization." Evangelization is the fundamental mission of the Church. It is also a continuous process of encounter with Christ. This process generates a spirituality that leads to conversion, to communion and solidarity, touching every dimension of Christian life and transforming every human situation. In order to more effectively reach all Hispanics (including inactive Catholics and those without a church), this “new evangelization” has been integrated into this Plan in each of the four specific dimensions of the ministry.
